The Brief of the project is to celebrate Royal Enfield's 120 years of Pure Motorcycling through Illustrations that can be used as a part of Brand's Visual Identity to be showcased at various spaces.
CONCEPT NOTE
The idea is to depict the 12 decades of Royal Enfield in the format of Postage Stamps commemorating the highlight of each decade in its history.
The segments of History is always interconnected with each other and has EVOLUTION as the core bond across the timeline.
The above line is the key theme & driving factor for the illustrations.
The ideated Stamp collection is divided into sections of 4*3 (totally 12). Each section represents a decade in isolation and while when put all of them together, they are visually gets connected to form a Single Artwork of overall RE’s TIMELINE.
STAMP COLLECTION
1901
The needle manufacturing unit to the production of motorcycles is where it all started.
The Enfield cycle co. then produced its first motorcycle in 1901.
1910
Royal enfield’s early years saw racing successes at the Brooklands circuit and Isle of man TT.
V- twin engines are the backbone of RE’s range and are loved for their reliability and ease of maintenance.
1920
1920’s saw Royal enfield rising from The Great war with an addition of sidecars for family outings.
1930
1930 was a golden era for Royal enfield, the high point being the 1932 launch of the world famous bullet which is still the longest running production model by any manufacturer.
1940
1940’s legendary wartime motorcycle was purpose built for the soldiers to provide easy and quick ride away from the war areas.
These lightweight vehicles were dropped in a cradle attached at the end of the parachute.
1950
Royal Enfield partnered with Madras motors in 1955 to form ‘Enfield India’ and built a factory in a district near Madras called Tiruvottiyur.
1960
The motorcycle youth culture of 60’s britain was dominated by arch rivals the mods and rockers. The latter’s amount of choice was the cafe racer.
The flourishing culture around the Ace cafe, London still remains a source of inspiration for young riders.
1970
The interceptor was the swansong for a long line of Royal enfield twins.
It was the dream machine for surfers and the desert racers alike.
1980
The bullet remained the most powerful and lauded motorcycle on India’s roads and thus remained largely unchanged until the Bullet superstar of the 1980s
This offered riders the character of the original CI engine but with more contemporary styling.
1990
Young royal enfield riders formed the first Royal enfield community. The highlight of the decade was the 1997 massed bullet ride to Khardung La in Ladakh.
90’s also mark the ownership of Royal enfield by Eicher motors renaming the company as Royal enfield India motors limited which carved the path of success for the coming years.
2000
The classic took the bullet back to its Post- war British styling with an upgraded UCE engine for modern day reliability, performance and ease of maintenance.
The classic proved to be the stone turner and gained huge traction from the masses.
2010
Launched in 2016, the Himalayan redefined adventure motorcycling.
Tested to extreme on the world’s Highest mountain range, the 411cc Himalayan is endowed with long- travel suspension, a torquey yet flexible engine and loads of luggage carrying capacity.
